Tunisia Travel Guide
By Cooper Richmond
Tunisia is situated in northern Africa, on the Mediterranean. It is one of the most interesting countries to visit in Africa. It has the classic Mediterranean beaches, Greek style cities, all draped on the beautiful Sahara Desert. Whether it’s chilling on the beach, relaxing in a café in Tunis, or riding a camel in the Sahara, Tunisia is poised to amaze.
When staying in Tunis, the capital city, there are many things to see. One of the most famous attractions is Dougga. Dougga is an ancient Roman ruin. When visiting Dougga it is easy to forget that you are in Africa. It is completed surrounded by green, similar to that of northern Europe. Another great attraction in Tunis is the Medina of Tunis. The market dates back to the 12th century and is the best place to shop, or start your exploration of the city. The place to visit when leaving the great city is the Zitouna Mosque. The Mosque dates back to 860. It is a perfect example of Muslim Africa for the history buff.
But when one exits the urban areas of Tunisia it is highly recommended to trek into the Sahara. There are several travel agencies in Tunisia that rent out camel tours of the Sahara. This is one of the best ways to truly see Saharan Africa.
Tunisia is the jewel of northern Africa and has been slowly gaining popularity among the more adventurous of us. I highly recommend the trip.
